Star Magazine: Week One Day Two

Tuesday, 8 July 2014

I woke up at a slightly more normal time of 6.45am this morning and decided to wear a denim dress with a black blazer. The office has a smart casual dress code and as the weather was nice, I thought I'd opt for a dress. I caught the 8.19 train to Euston and arrived at around 9.20. I went to the little spot round the back again and read my book in the sunshine until it was time to go in. So many people run along the Thames and it's the perfect place to sit and people watch which is something I love doing. People are completely oblivious and in their own little world which I like. At ten to, I got my visitors pass and headed into the office for day two. My first task was to finish off the interview I was transcribing for Katie yesterday afternoon. I proofed it for any errors which took me just under an hour and sent it to Katie.

I then helped Gemma by doing the weekly horoscopes for the mag. She gave me sheets and sheets of paper and I had to go through and pick a celeb for each starsign which was actually pretty fun as they'll be in the mag next week. That took me about half an hour and afterwards I did some more mail outs of the mags for Gemma. I then wrote a piece for online about Kourtney Kardashian flashing her cute little baby bump in a gold bikini. The online pieces are around 150 words and take me around 30/40 minutes to write before I send them to Daisy to proof, edit and post online. Daisy then asked me to read the Charlie Sims interview in this week's mag, pick the juiciest bits out and write a story for online. The third online piece I wrote was about how Holly Willoughby admitted that she couldn't stop crying at Fearne Cotton's wedding. You can read all three pieces here (Kourtney), here (Charlie) and here (Holly).

That took me up until 2 so then I took my hour lunch break, ate, read my book and treated myself to a toffee and butterscotch cookie and a hot chocolate from Costa which I took back down to my desk. The afternoon was relatively quiet so I read last week's and this week's edition of new! (Star shares the office with new! I'm not being a traitor), and this week's edition of Star. A celeb and her furry friend popped in the office briefly but I'm not going to give you any hints! I'm using a Mac computer while I'm at Star which is actually really nice as I've never used one before. I imagine that in the industry, Macs are mainly used so it's good that I'm learning to get to grips with the basics for when and if I have to use one in the future. Plus, the keyboards are dreamy to type on. Daisy goes on holiday tomorrow which is a shame as we get on well and chat throughout the day but as always, I'm looking forward to tomorrow.
Today's awkward tube encounter consisted of my bum being intermittently pressed against one man's leg for the duration of the journey because there was absolutely ZERO room for personal space. How delightful. Oh, and you know I mentioned I wore a dress this morning because it was sunny? I was sitting on the train and it was pouring. Arms out. Legs out. Toes out. Brilliant. Thanks a bunch unpredictable English weather.  And thank god for the taxi of Mum who kindly saved me from the train station when I got there. Cups of tea in my dressing gown are in order for the rest of the evening. Commuting to London means 12 hour days which literally turns me into a grandma, so I'll say goodnight now...
