Heat Magazine Internship: Week One: Day Two

Tuesday, 3 June 2014

If you'd like to read about what I got up to on my first day, you can read all about it here. After such a good first day I was excited to go back today to see what was in store. I wore a monochrome geometric print skort from Miss Selfridge with a River Island black off the shoulder top. It looked pretty cloudy so I threw on a pair of tights, heeled boots and my leather jacket. I got the same time train and arrived half an hour early so went into a cute cafe called Pure which is a few doors down from Endeavour House. The toast sticks with chocolate spread on the sandwich board outside enticed me and they didn't disappoint. I was expecting them to be overpriced but I was pleasantly surprised at the £1.75 price tag for two.

Once I'd eaten and had a browse through today's heat mag I met Eleanor, grabbed the deliveries and we headed up to the office. A lady called Jen who is features editor asked me if I minded transcribing an interview Lucie did and I happily obliged. I want to complete as many different tasks as possible while I'm interning so I was excited to do something new.  I'm not going to give away who Lucie interviewed as the interview hasn't been broadcast or published yet, but I was super excited when I found out who it was. I'll spill the beans when it's been published! It was exciting transcribing something that wasn't in the public domain yet and although it took me ageeeees (like hours), I really enjoyed doing it.

That took me up to lunchtime and I headed back to Pure as their lunch menu looked just as good as their breakfast menu. I went for a Ham it Up flatbread which was slow-cooked pulled ham, Swiss cheese, tomato, Grandma's dressing and mixed leaves which was tasty, followed by a double chocolate chip cookie. I ate lunch and phoned my friend Georgia for a catch up. It's so weird not being at uni and seeing the girls all the time so daily catch ups are needed, especially while we're all busy doing different things. I grabbed the deliveries on my way back up and got on with my next task.

Celebs are used for outfit pieces and one of the jobs the girls do in the office is finding similar garments for style articles which basically means browsing through high street stores online. Heaven, I know. I also had to try and find out where some of the celebs' original outfits were from which can take some time. When an item is going to be used in the mag a high res image is essential to avoid pixelation, so I had to ring Missguided PR and request a high res image. I I also started searching for more celebs wearing the same outfits so I can write some more 'Who wore it best?' pieces in the week.

As it approached 5 I offered to run out and get a photo frame Hannah and Andy needed so I popped out for five minutes to grab that. Little tasks like that may seem boring at face value, but it's nice to get out of the office and the people you're helping out really appreciate it. It was a little quieter in the office today but I was kept busy so again the day flew by. Hannah is shooting some items tomorrow for a summer piece and she's invited me and Eleanor up to the studio to join her which should be fun. The London commute home was as eventful as ever. I saw far too many women in dresses, tights and trainers and even had a couple full on kissing on the train  in front of me. Needless to say I'm not about that PDA life.

Until tomorrow...

    1. It was more shooting items rather than a proper fashion shoot but it was still fun to observe! Glad you're enjoying the posts x
