Glossybox | March: Initial Thoughts

Friday, 28 March 2014

Another month, another Glossybox. When I received an email to say my box was on its way, I was super excited. The pale pink box is dreamy and the contents are even more dreamy. I'm going to make a big claim and say I prefer it over last month's box. Sure, I haven't tried and tested the products fully yet, but last month I loved the Ciate polish, didn't like the Maybelline mascara, haven't really used the Nougat body shimmer, haven't used the NV purple eye crayon due to not being keen on the colour and haven't got round to using the shampoo and conditioner samples. I knew some of the products weren't for me when I gave my initial thoughts but I feel this box is much better suited my my personal tastes.

Mitchell and Peach Body Cream - 40ml - £36 for 180ml
I love the packaging because it's so minimalistic and sleek.  The simple black and white combo works but I can't say the same for the smell. The back of the product says the cream contains honey, organic cocoa and shea butter which sounds like a dreamy combination, but if you look in the ingredients section, they've packed in lavender oil which is a scent I don't like in skincare products. In my opinion it smells old lady-ish when I like body products to be a lot lighter and fresher. It's a shame it doesn't smell like shea butter but because it's quite a dinky size, I might pop it in my bag incase I encounter a moisturiser emergency.

Sleek MakeUP Pout Polish - Full Size RRP £4.49 10g
In all honesty, if I was looking at the Sleek counter, I wouldn't pick this product up but it's a hidden gem. The packaging is so cute and girly and it's a lot bigger in circumference compared to a lot of lip balms which means you can apply with ease. I got this in the shade Chocolate Kiss which again, I wouldn't have chosen as it looks quite dark in the pan, but it looks beautiful on the lips. It's described as a tinted lip conditioner, contains SPF 15 and is packed with almond oil, shea butter and vitamin E. It smells gorgeous and feels super soft. I was dubious to  see the colour but it's definitely a 'your lips but better' which surprised me. It brightens the lips and injects a bit of life into them and I'm a little bit in love.

Bellapierre Cosmetics Ltd Shimmer Powders - Full Size RRP £12.99 2.35g
I've never heard of this brand before but the product looks lovely. It's meant to be a multi-use product and can be used as an eye shadow or mixed into blusher, nail polish or lip gloss. I've got the shade Diligence which is a rich chocolate brown with a bronze shimmer running through it so I think I'd only use it as an eye shadow. Although the colour is gorgeous, it looks as if it'll be messy. It's a loose powder with a plastic lid on top with three small holes. I'm assuming you tap the lip to access the product but when I did that, it kind of went everywhere which isn't ideal. I will however visit their website for application tips. I hope the pigmentation/formula is as lovely as the colour.

Juicy Couture Malibu Collection - Samples 2 x 1.5ml
I've heard good things about Juicy Couture perfumes but I've never tried them. These are teeny little cylinder samples and are literally perfect for taking on nights out. If you feel a bit hot and sweaty in a club or bar you can give yourself a little spritz and freshen up. I have a Couture La La Malibu sample which has sparkling mandarin notes and sweet pink sugar and smells very light, fresh and fruity and I also have a Juicy Couture Malibu sample which is a little heavier and muskier. The Couture La La is my favourite of the two but I'll definitely get a lot of use out of these.

Dove Hair Therapy Intensive Repair 60 Second Treatment Shot - Full size £1.49 15ml
I always want to use these but for some reason I never ever pick them up so I was pleased when I saw this in my box. Every now and then I think it's good to give your hair a deep intensive treatment and these little treatment shots are perfect. Dove are an established brand with a fantastic reputation so it was a welcome addition. It's meant to be the perfect pick-me-up for hair care in a hurry which sounds ideal as my hair is looking a little lacklustre at the moment and could do with a bit of a lift.

I'm surprised that I'm even more impressed with this month's box over last month's and I can't wait to see what April has in store. Do you have a beauty box subscription?

  1. Not a box I'd be impressed with, I'm afraid. I think they've totally lost the 'luxury' touch they used to have and they've featured Belle Pierre products countless times!

    1. That's a shame that you feel they've lost their luxury touch! I've been happy with the boxes so far but if I ever started to feel disappointed month after month I would definitely reconsider, but for the time being I'm enjoying the products. Do you get a different beauty box now?X

  2. I got all the same stuff as you! It's the best one I have had so far, but still not a patch on Birchbox, so I think I'm going to cancel. I did like the Sleek pot, but I've seen other people got far nicer shades, and some got a very expensive serum in their boxes - not fair! x

    1. I agree Amber, it's better than last month's box and I liked that one. I've never tried Birchbox but I have been reading some great reviews so I might have to give it a go at some point! See I thought the shade was a bit dodgy at first, but I really like it! Ooh did they, instead of what product?X

    2. Instead of the perfume samples - which you could probably get free at a counter or in a mag! Thought that was pretty poor really, I don't agree with giving tiny perfume samples in a paid-for box at the best of times! x

    3. I agree they may not be the best products when you're paying for the box but I never find these at counters and they're so handy for popping in your bag on nights out so I quite liked receiving them!X

  3. Hello, I found your blog through #bbloggers and I'm not a new follower!

I use to subscribe to GlossyBox but cancelled my subscription a while back now because I got a little bored but I'm very tempted to start it up again. The boxes seem to have gotten so much better with a wider range of samples so try!

    1. Aw thank you Claire! I heard that Glossybox recently got a lot of negative feedback so I think since January they've upped their game and taken customer feedback on board which I think is great! But like Amber said above, Birchbox is meant to be great too!X

  4. I keep seeing reviews on different beauty boxes and I'm really tempted, can't decide which one to sign up to though!
I always trust your reviews though Nicole!
