Revlon ColorBurst Matte Balms | Review

Wednesday, 26 February 2014

Can you believe I've only posted one beauty review in 2014? Bad beauty blogger. I had a small hiccup with the light box I ordered and it turns out it hasn't been as useful as I'd hoped. This means I'm having to take pictures in abundance when I go home in order to get some blogworthy snaps as the lighting in my uni room is rubbish. Fear not, I've got a stack of pictures ready and waiting so beauty reviews will be back in full swing.

The Revlon ColorBurst Balms took the blogosphere by storm and for about a week, my Bloglovin' feed was full of mainly positive reviews so of course, I picked a couple up the next time I was in Boots. Yep, you can blame the blogger for making me buy these. One thing that tempted me even more was the matte finish. A glossy finish isn't really my cup of tea so thank you Revlon for catering for us matte lip lovers.

Let's start with the packaging because for me, packaging can be a deal breaker. I know I sound like an advertisers dream, but if something looks great, I'm a lot more likely to buy it. I like the fact that the matte balms come in a matte tube and the lacquer balms which are also available come in a metallic tube - it's a nice little touch. They look fairly high end with a simple and practical yet classic design which works.

I'm a red lip lover so naturally went for the two red shades. Standout is a deep berry hue while Striking - the brighter of the two - is more of a classic red. They have a Triple Butter Complex of Shea, Coconut and Mango butters which nourish the lips and have a light peppermint fragrance which personally, I like. Application with the thick crayon-like nib is easy and you can build the colour for a more intense finish.

The formula is lovely and very hydrating on the lips. Sometimes matte isn't the best finish if you suffer with dry lips but flakiness was kept at bay. I wouldn't say the finish is 100% matte, more of a velvety matte finish, but gorgeous all the same. The durability is pretty good but you may want to pop it in your bag and top up when necessary if you're going to be eating or drinking. At £7.99 you'd be silly not to pick one up.

Have you tried any of the matte or lacquer balms? What did you think?

  1. I've just started testing the matte balms, and even though they don't last all day I LOVE the look and it's a beautiful range of shades too :o) Xx

  6. I really must try these, I keep going in swatching and leaving (the people in Boots must think I'm mad!) I really do need to pick a few of these up initially I was worried they'd be super drying but from the reviews it doesn't seem like they are x
