My 20th Birthday

Saturday, 8 February 2014

Excuse me a moment while I sob into my duvet over the fact I'm no longer a teen. Being 20 means I'm one step closer to being a proper adult and in my boyfriend's wise words and birthday card message, halfway to being 40. Great. Despite having an exam on my birthday, I had a really lovely day and evening. The girls and I stopped at Starbucks after the exam and I travelled back home early afternoon.

I only had a couple of hours at home but I spent some time with my family eating dinner and opened cards and presents. I'd made a wishlist of what I wanted for my birthday and I was lucky enough to receive some of the goodies that featured on my list. I'm really lucky to have such generous and thoughtful friends and family who know me inside out. I came home with a suitcase brimming with clothes for my week at home so I dread to think how I'm going to take it all back. Oops.

Georgia and Abby travelled all the way from Nottingham while Emily came from Southampton. How great are they!? Two of my other best friends Demi and Darian came too with Darian letting us stay at her uni house in London. What a babe. After a mad dash across London we made it to Darian's and the drinking commenced. I got champagne for Christmas so thought it would be the perfect time to take it and celebrate my birthday and the end of exams. It was a bit of an anti-climax as when I stood up to pop the cork. the pressure from being thrown around in my pull-along holdall was clearly have too much and the cork popped itself. I'd also like to point out that I like to think I'm classy by drinking champers but in reality, I wince as soon as it comes into contact with my taste buds. Maybe I'm not an adult after all.

We went to Cargo in Shoreditch and had a really fun night. We'd never been before so we didn't know what to expect but we all had a lovely night. Drinks were ridiculously expensive so we steered clear of the bar but the venue is like a big warehouse and I'd definitely go again. I had the best time spending my birthday night with my favourite girls but didn't have quite the same attitude in the morning. Yes, I'm talking to you, hangover. Two tubes and one train later I got a much needed McDonalds before a lazy afternoon and a family Chinese takeaway. Perfect.

Well, that's it for another year until the big 2-1 next year! How do you like to spend your birthday?
