Moments that Mattered | Competition Entry

Friday, 17 January 2014

If you read Hannah’s blog Away with the Fairies or Georgina's blog She Might Be Loved then you might be aware of a competition they're both running thanks to Lloyds Bank. The competition is called Moments that mattered and an iPad Mini is up for grabs – how amazing! I've wanted an iPad for a long time so to be in with a chance of winning just by doing something I love, is pretty cool. The competition requires you to write a post about the moments that mattered most in 2013. I think this is a really refreshing concept as it allows you to get creative, be reflective and doesn't leave it to the luck of the draw. Let me introduce you to my entry...

The beginning of 2013 really saw me settle into my Print Journalism course at university. I found my feet after the first three months and was in a very happy place. This was also the point where I became really close with two of the girls on my course – Georgia and Abby. They’re now two of my best friends and I don’t know what I’d do without them. We deal with tears, laughter and most of all, keep each other sane.  Another stand-out moment for me has to be my Hilton Hotel getaway with my boyfriend where we celebrated our three year anniversary. It was pretty special.

In July, I attended the VIP Mahiki event at Henley Regatta with one of my best friends who was doing work experience at Look magazine. It was the most surreal experience and gave me a real taste of what life could be like. It really motivated me to stay focused and work towards my goals which brings me to another monumental moment – getting my work published.  As a trainee journalist, seeing my work in print is so gratifying. As well as writing regularly for my university newspaper and magazine, different pieces were published in my local newspaper, Essex Style Magazine and GameCity. The icing on the cake was getting a first and two 2:1s in my summer exams.

In September I was a fresher rep for ten days which was one of the best experiences of my year hands down. I met some of the loveliest people I've ever come across and had so much fun. It was a whirlwind ten days but I’m so glad I experienced it and have so many memories. In terms of blogging, 2013 was the year I really started to make an effort with my blog. I hit a milestone of 10,000 views and 100 followers which may not seem like a lot, but to me was very rewarding. Blogging is a huge, and important, part of my life so knowing people enjoy what I write is so encouraging. The blogging community is very supportive and I love being a part of it.

To round things up I ended 2013 with family and friends over Christmas and New Year which was the perfect little ending. Trivial things can easily take control and make you lose sight of what’s really important, so I like to take a little time sometimes to appreciate everything I have and look forward to what’s to come. 2013 was a good year for me, so I can only hope that 2014 is bigger and better. Thank you for reading, and allowing me to reflect on the moments that mattered most.

If you like the idea of this and want to enter yourself, read Hannah's or Georgina's post to find out exactly how you could be in with a chance of winning. Why not post your entry link on both of their blogs like me to double your chances (don't worry, I've checked that this is allowed). Call me greedy but I'm hungry for that iPad! What do you think of this creative entry idea?
