UNI ROOM ACCESSORIES

Thursday, 19 September 2013

I love a good room accessory. A few candles, fairy lights and a pretty duvet cover make the world of difference, especially when you're temporarily living in a uni room and want to make it as cosy and homely as possible. If you read my last post then you'll know that I've been buying a few new bits for my room, so I thought I'd share them with you as if you're as nosy as me, then you might like to see. They don't exactly match, but who even likes matching any more? I kind of bought them all separately and realised they clashed when I took these photos. However, they're quite spaced out in my room and I actually quite like the mix of floral prints and patterns, it looks pretty. Most of the stuff I have in my room including cute photo frames, a hanging wicker heart and a cream cut out lamp to name a few are all from last year, so I'm just going to show you the new additions.

First up is this super cute biscuit tin. I may be ridiculous paying £6.99 for it, but it's undeniably fun and looks pretty cool sitting on my shelf. Why on my shelf you ask? Because I eat biscuits like there's no tomorrow and my room is the furthest away from the kitchen. Not only does this biscuit tin look nice, it has its uses and is actually very air tight which is great. Nobody wants stale biscuits. This one is from Dunelm Mills but they're all over the place at the minute, so if you did want a cheaper alternative or a different design, then I'm sure you'd find one in the shops very easily.

I love storage. Be it boxes, baskets, drawers - I love it. I'm not one of those people who can have pieces of paper scattered here there and everywhere, it all needs to be contained in one place so I know where it is and it's easily accessible when and if I need something. I've got all my bank statements, student finance letters and everything else boring/document related in this box and it has a little home on one of my shelves. I didn't want a plain lifeless box so I was pretty chuffed when I managed to pick this up in Tesco's for a mere £4.25.

I didn't have fairy lights in my room last year so I knew I definitely wanted to get some for this year. Sometimes a lamp is too bright when you want to be in the dark, but don't want it to be pitch black, so fairy lights are a great alternative, especially when they're white light and not coloured or yellow. I didn't want to splash out on some so I found these in Dunelm Mills for £2.99. There's only about 10 and the plastic wire is fairly short, but they look cute hanging vertically in the corner of my room. It just adds a little pinch of light and they're battery operated which means they don't need to be situated near a plug.

I'm a bit of a fan of bedding because I think it can completely make or break a room. Nice bedding is the finishing touch to making a room look cosy so I opted for this multi coloured floral duvet set from Morrisons. It's reversible as well so while one side is a mix of polka dots, flowers and block colours, the other side is completely floral as you can see in the picture above. It fits in with the whole 'cute' theme of my room and gives it a really girly feel which I like. This was a bargain at only £10 so I just couldn't say no.

What else do you think I should add to my room? I think my next post will be a room tour, is that something you'd be interested in seeing pictures of and reading?
