My Uni Room

Sunday, 25 August 2013

Uni is one of the biggest and most exciting steps you take in life. The thought of complete independence and freedom is incredibly exciting, but there comes a point where most people miss the little things like home comforts. Before I moved to uni last September, I decided that I was going to make my room really homely, and I plan to do the same this year. I want to try and integrate new things into my room each year to make it feel cosy and welcoming. I've picked a few of my favourite pieces that I hope I'll be able to get my hands on. Fairy lights are a great choice to add a nice atmosphere while you're watching TV at night, these white flower ones are from eBay so they're very pretty but also fairly cheap. The storage boxes are essential as small rooms clutter easily. I like to be very organised so boxes like these are key - plus they're gorgeous. I bought a small pair of wooden drawers last year as I didn't have enough storage, or I just have too much stuff, but they've yellowed due to the light. I absolutely love these white Malm drawers from Ikea and at a mere £35 I really don't think I'm going to be able to resist. It's the little accessories that really make your room feel like home so I want some cushions, candles and flowers to add the finishing touches. I love white and cream accessories and I love shopping in cute little vintage boutique shops for bits and pieces like this. Yankee Candles are meant to be amazing but they'll be more for decoration than smell. My carpet at uni is navy which isn't the nicest of colours. With the rest of my room looking all girly and cute, I want to cover up the dull carpet with a nice cream rug to tie the whole theme together. Last but not least I want to get a quote poster to put by my bed. I'm a sucker for a good quote and a positive quote like this will look really homely stuck on my wall. I've rounded up my pick of accessories for my room so I hope you like them. If you're off to uni this September then I'd really recommend making your room as homely, comfortable and cosy as possible to help you settle in.

Is there anything else I should buy?

  1. I love the storage boxes! You should buy a long mirror too :)

  2. This is the most gorgeous post! I'm not at uni, nor was it ever something I wanted to do, but if I was to move out I would do exactly this. I'm all about making things 'homely', even when I was little, i'd make little homely dens in the garden, haha. You have the exact style I have, I especially love those boxes and the quote. I'm also a sucker for a positive quote, they're a great pick-me-up. Have you looked in Wilkos? They do some sweet canvas quotes and the most adorable/homely cushions. Sorry for the long comment, haha. I hope you make it as comfy and homely as you can :) x
