Loving Life In Leeds

Sunday, 4 August 2013

I'm tucked up in my jammies waiting for Big Brother to start after a tiring yet lovely weekend. On Friday, Georgia (one of my best friends from uni) and I travelled up to Leeds via the 561 National Express coach. Although the three hour long journey was a little painful, it meant we had plenty of time to catch up. Georgia and I can talk for England when we're together so there was barely a quiet second. When we arrived in Leeds we were greeted at the coach station by Abby (one of our other best friends at uni) and her lovely mum Julie who came to pick us up. Since the end of uni back in June, we vowed to visit Abby up in Leeds and have a little reunion. If you're a regular reader then you'll know I often go to Leeds to visit my boyfriend, so I stayed with him on the Friday night and then left around half 2 on the Saturday to go and meet the girls in town. Although my visit to Ciaran's was short and sweet, I still had a lovely time and enjoyed his company, as always. Meanwhile, Georgia was filling Abby in on everything she'd told me on the coach, so it worked out pretty well. Georgia bought us all a little pressie which was a gold dove friendship necklace. It's so simple yet elegant and looks gorg on - what a cutie!

On Saturday the girls hit the shops at lunchtime and had only been in three shops when I arrived at three - now that's what I call proper shopping. There was a team of hair stylists in Superdrug who had teamed up with Britain and Ireland's Next Top Model and Tresseme for promotion purposes who were offering to style your hair for free. Abby and Georgia booked us all in while I was on the bus into town and when I arrived Georgia was getting her hair done. She went for an up do and it looked so beautiful (see picture below). Abby went for loose curls which looked gorgeous as she has such long lovely locks, but I wasn't so happy with mine. I'm used to wearing my extensions on a night out but I'd accidentally left them at Ciaran's along with my fake tan and curling wand - what a doughnut. My hair isn't particularly long so it's hard to make it look nice curly without extensions to add a little volume. As much as I was grateful for the time and effort the lady put in, I decided that my curly do wasn't for me.

Come 6.00pm (yes they spent six hours shopping) we were on the bus back to Abby's and were all in need of a little power nap. We ate while we chatted and then started to get ready. I was having a disastrous time and was having one of those nights where I felt utterly horrible. I tried straightening my hair but the heat mixed with the curls wasn't having any of it and it just wasn't working. After a mini meltdown Georgia came to the rescue and styled my hair in a little up do which I actually really liked, so thanks Georg! After a few Malibu and Cranberry's we were ready to hit the town and got a taxi. On the journey Georgia pointed out that my nails weren't painted and I was absolutely mortified. I'd taken my chipped nail varnish off earlier in the evening ready to re paint them and what will all the hair madness I completely forgot. This for me was the worst thing because my nails don't go a day unpainted. I'm completely nail obsessed and felt a little bare without it on.

Polish aside, we first went to Lloyd's, then on to Baa Bar which was ridiculously hot I felt like my insides were melting and then to Players where we got VIP wristbands and a round of shots for free. Players had such a good atmosphere and the music was good so we stayed in there for a good while. After that we walked down to the bottom of town to a gay bar called Viaduct. The atmosphere was very different in there and we were surrounded by drag queens. The music wasn't great so after a quick drink we moved on. Call lane was our next port of call which is a mini strip of bars. It's quite a classy atmosphere and the bars are all very unique. We went to Call Lane Social which only offered the worst smell ever to meet my nostrils, so headed across the road over to Jake's Bar which was actually very nice. It has the same sort of vibe as a bar called Coco Tang back in Nottingham so we felt very at home in there.

Our feet were starting to suffer by this point so we decided to head home to bed. Although we booked a taxi it took forever but thankfully we managed to flag one down. After some bread and butter and a little chat, we all fell asleep and slept right through until 10am. Abby's mum cooked us bacon sandwiches which was so sweet, so Georgia and I enjoyed one with a cup of tea - perfect start to the morning. We all had a really lovely weekend and it was nice to see Ciaran as well as the girls. Everywhere was full of people and it was absolutely buzzing. I love Leeds - it's a really lovely city and my first experience of the night life was a really good one. Georgia and I had a little sleep on the journey home which was well needed but I genuinely had a really lovely weekend with three of my favourite people.
