Liebster Award

Sunday, 28 July 2013

Today's post is a rather exciting one as I've been nominated for the Liebster Award by British Beauty Addict - Emily Knott and Sincerely Snow - Keri Snow which is so lovely of them. It's flattering to know that people actually take the time out to read my blog, and enjoy it. The meaning behind the Liebster Award is to make people aware of smaller blogs with less than 200 followers. This award is passed around from one blogger to another and is a great way to unite the blogging community in a bid to support and get to know other new and upcoming bloggers. I've certainly found some new blogs through looking at other people's nominations. Thank you to both Emily and Keri!

So of course, there are some rules: 1 You must link back to the person that nominated you. 2 You must answer the 11 Liebster questions given to you by the nominee before you. 3 You must pick 11 bloggers to be nominated for the award with under 200 followers. 4 You must come up with 11 questions for your nominees to answer. You must go to their blogs and notify your nominees.

It would be rude of me to only choose one of the girl's questions to answer so I'm going to answer both sets of questions but keep them short and sweet. First up are Emily's questions...

1. Pick the one beauty product you couldn't live without?
I definitely couldn't live without Vaseline. I suffer with fairly dry lips so I slather it on before bed and in the morning. Of course there are other products I couldn't live without but soft lips are key so I'm going to go with Vaseline on this one.

2. What is your top beauty tip?
Invest in some high quality make-up brushes. They make applying your make-up a lot easier and produce a much better result. I would personally suggest buying the Real Techniques Core Collection and then building that collection once you know what brushes work best for you.

3. Where is your favourite place to visit?
Ooh, this is a tough one, but I'm going to say Cornwall. I visit at least once a year and my family and I stay with family friends. It's a beautiful part of the country and the beaches are gorgeous. It's a yearly tradition for my family so it would be extremely weird if we didn't go.

4. Who is your favourite blogger/youtuber?
Another tough one! I wouldn't say I have one definitive favourite blogger because I actually think there are lots of talented bloggers out there. I read The Londoner's and Dizzybrunette3's blog without fail but then again I love some of the small undiscovered blogs too.

5. What advice would you give to new bloggers?
Be yourself. If something doesn't interest you - don't write about it. Write about things you love and your blog will grow. Also, develop your own writing style. It's always nice when you can relate to a blogger because they have a chatty and conversational writing style.

6. Do you blog full time?
No, just part time as I go to uni so I try to establish a blogging/work balance. At the moment I'm working full time through summer which has made it harder to find time to blog. Blogging doesn't feel like a chore by any means, it's just hard sometimes to find the time to blog as I don't want my posts to lack quality because they're being rushed.

7. What beauty products are you hoping to get next?
Lots! I have a list in my notes on my iPhone that is probably longer than my arm. I really want the Revlon Just Bitten Kissable Balm Stain, Hue MAC lipstick, an array of Topshop polishes, Benefit Brow Zings Brow Shaping Kit and Benefit They're Real Mascara. Need I go on?

8. What is your favourite movie?
I don't think I have one favourite movie which I could watch all the time. A cop out answer I know, but I can't name a favourite off the top of my head. Some of my favourites include The Holiday, Up, Just Go With It and the Twilight films.

9. Heels or Converse?
It really depends on the occasion. Day time - converse all the way. A night out - generally heels, but if I'm going somewhere like Ocean which is a grotty but extremely fun club or I can't be bothered to endure the pain of heels, then I'll even wear Converse on a night out. Don't get me wrong, I still love getting dressed up in a pretty dress and a pair of heels.

10. Go to make-up brand?
High end I would say either MAC or Benefit, but high street I would go with Rimmel or Bourjois. Sometimes the product can be just as good for half the price, but it is nice to indulge in a little bit of luxury every now and again.

11. What is the goal for your blog?
For people to keep enjoying what they read. If I can continue to write posts that people choose to read then I'll be a very happy girl. Comments are really inspiring too, because it means people are being sincere and are genuinely interested in interacting with you and getting to know you. Of course, followers are great, but they're not the be all and end all.

And now for Keri's...

1. What is one thing you wish you were brave (or rich) enough to try?
I would love to jump out of a plane, but I really don't know if I'd have the guts when push comes to shove. I think it would be an incredible experience, but I think it would take a lot to get me up in the plane in the first place.

2. Who was your first celebrity crush?
Oh god. This is embarrassing. I used to be obsessed with the film Bend It Like Beckham and I remember really fancying the football coach out of that. His name is Jonathon Rhys Meyers, you'll recognise him when you pop the name into Google!

3. If you could rewrite a film/book ending what would you choose and what would you change?
If you've seen a film called Knowing then you'll probably agree with me on this one. It's a great film but the ending is so far-fetched and unrealistic it just ruins it. I don't know what I'd change it to exactly because I'm not the most imaginative of people, but maybe instead of an alien spaceship taking all the children away, it could be something a little more believable. Can you tell I'm not a fan of sci-fi?

4. What is your favourite decade and why?
In all honesty I'm not really into history that much so I don't have a favourite decade. We have so much more freedom and so many more opportunities than people in other decades and I think we should be appreciative of that.

5. Who is your style icon?
I really like how Molly King dresses as I think she's very feminine and looks gorgeous in anything. I find celebs a little hit and miss at the minute though. One day they'll be seen wearing something beautiful, and the next day, something not so. I like celebs who are fairly ordinary and feel comfortable wearing something casual and don't feel the need to be dressed up 24/7.

6. In honour of The Beauty Belle, who is your celebrity girl crush?
I've said it before and I'll say it again - Michelle Keegan. I actually did a post on this before because I think she's absolutely beautiful.

7. What is your number one guilty pleasure?
Listening to old music like Boyzone, The Backstreet Boys and The Spice Girls - you can't beat it.

8. Would you rather meet your ancestors or your great great great children?
My ancestors. It would interesting to find out where my family came from and how it has developed. Meeting your great great great grandchildren before you've even had children yourself would be a little spooky.

9. What beauty skill do you wish you were better at?
Eyeshadow! I always have to get someone to do it for me because I'm useless. Maybe it's because I don't have the right blending brushes, or maybe I'm just rubbish. A personal eyeshadow make-up artist would be excellent.

10. If you could go to lunch with anyone in the world who would you pick?
Oooh, this is tricky! I'd want to go with someone interesting so it would have to be with someone who is quite publicy reserved because these days you know a fair amount about celebs anyway. Kate Middleton would be an interesting choice or a comedian purely because it would be hilarious. Or maybe Lord Sugar...

11. Would you rather a 5,000 shopping spree or a 5 night luxury vacation?
Well, if it was being given to me then the shopping spree, but if I had saved £5,000 and was then spending it then I'd go for the holiday. Saved money should be spent on something durable which you will remember. You can shop whenever you want and spend little amounts at a time, but a holiday is longer lasting and more memorable.

Thanks for your questions girls, this post has taken me a while to write because I got stuck on some of them! Now it's my turn...

My 11 questions are...

1. What is the most important thing to you?
2. What do you love most about blogging?
3. If you had to take three beauty products to a desert island, what would they be?
4. What's your favourite high street store and why?
5. Where do you see yourself in five years time?
6. What is your favourite and least favourite feature?
7. What is your pet hate?
8. What do you hope to achieve with your blog?
9. What is your best piece of life advice?
10. What is your dream job?
11. Does money mean happiness?
