Work Experience: Day Three

Wednesday, 19 June 2013

The end of day three means I have completed more of my work experience than I have left. It's actually gone very quickly which I didn't think it would. Today I wore an outfit that I've been looking forward to wearing since I bought it. I absolutely love these shorts. The tweed design turn a normal pair of high waisted shorts into a formal pair ideal for work experience. I actually picked them up in the Primark sale for £5 which I couldn't quite believe. I love the little black and gold bow belt that comes with them because it just adds a little pinch of something different. I teamed the shorts with my black Topshop peplum top which I tucked in. I wore a chunky silver and gold necklace which broke up the plain top and complemented the belt. Once again, I teamed this outfit with a blazer - H&M this time - black tights and my regular black and silver studded shoes.

This morning I edited my recycling nib I did yesterday as it was too long and also popped a headline into the template. I then rang a lady about a charity event she's doing but I had to leave a message as she didn't answer. About 11am I was sent into town to film a short video. We're putting together a montage of videos for the longest day of the year on Friday so I went and filmed a guy make an espresso in Cafe Tiki. I made him say 'this is the way to start your day' at the end of the video which was pretty cheesy but it was funny all the same. He gave me a free milkshake which was definitely a perk of the job! Who in their right mind would turn down a freebie? Not me. I then went back to the office and phoned Angela back (the charity lady) as she had returned my call while I was out of the office. We had a nice chat and I took down some notes ready to write the story up.

At half 1 I took my lunch and had a look through this week's papers. I had four pieces published today in the Hemel Hempstead Gazette and Berkhamsted and Tring Gazette which is great! All these clippings and by-lines are going to really help build my CV. After lunch I carried on with the story and played around with it to meet the word count and make it flow. My last task of the day was to ring a lady about a charity cycling event she was doing. She was lovely and we chatted about what the event involved. I then wrote that up and although I pretty much finished, I'm going to look at it again tomorrow morning just to make sure I'm happy with it. I've actually surprised myself over the last few days as I thought I'd be really nervous and apprehensive about interviewing people over the phone and out and about, but it's actually been one of my favourite parts of the week. It's really nice to be given so much independence and not just be a tea girl - although I do make a smashing cuppa.
