The Body Shop - Rainforest Shine Shampoo and Conditioner

If you love hair-care products that smell amazing, make your hair super soft and leave it looking incredibly healthy and glossy, then keep reading. I was first introduced to The Body Shop's shampoos and conditioners   a year or so ago when I popped them on my Christmas list. I was bored of using drugstore brands and wanted something a little more luxurious. The Body Shop offer five different variations in their rainforest collection which are shine, radiance, balance, moisture and volumising. I of course went for the shine as it's for normal to dry hair which I consider myself to have.

What I love about this shampoo is the texture as it's resembles that of a hair serum - slightly thick and gloopy. That might not sound like the most appealing but it really is a godsend. I always seem to squeeze too much into my hand with a normal shampoo, and the thicker consistency of this shampoo combats any overload issues and instead allows you to squeeze a reasonable amount into the palm of your hand. This then of course allows a thorough wash as you have to work the shampoo into your hair in order to lather it up. Instead of having runny shampoo sitting on the top of your head rolling down your face, it almost sits securely on top until you're ready to get your hands in and really work it into your hair. This may well be your worst nightmare, but I personally love it as I like to know my hair is being thoroughly cleaned and cared for.

I'd say the conditioner was a normal consistency, however you only need a small amount, depending on your hair length obviously. Quick tip - don't condition the whole of your hair, start from around your ears as if you condition the roots, your hair is likely to get greasy more quickly.  One of the main selling points of this shampoo and conditioner is that they contain no silicones, no sulphates, no colourants and no parabens. Think all the good stuff ends there? Nope. The Body shop endorse an eco-conscious policy in which each product meets an eco-conscious standard. A green and white circular symbol appears on products that meet their stringent set of environmental criteria and only use ingredients known to be non-toxic to organisms that live in water.

I find that I never use as much conditioner as I do shampoo, so opted for the 400ml shampoo which is £6.50, and the 250ml conditioner which costs £4.50. I know this may seem quite steep as you can pick up 500ml for around 2 quid depending on the brand, but if you don't want to dive into the deep end just yet you can pick up 60ml for £2. This might be a good idea if you want to see how it works with your hair before purchasing a full size bottle. If you need persuading any more then might I just add that 'shine' is the best seller within the rainforest range, so surely that's enough for you to go and buy it. To top it off I think the packaging is really nice as it incorporates The Body Shop brand yet makes the bottles look really sleek and luxurious. Overall, I really love these products and although I can't afford to splash out over a tenner on them every time they need replenishing, I'll definitely keep restocking at Christmas and when and if I happen to have a  little extra money lying about.

Have you tried any of the rainforest collection? What did you think?

  1. I have a bottle of the shampoo but I'm not too keen on it as it makes my hair knottier than my other SLS free ones do! x

  2. Does it make your scalp itchy? I use the the shampoo from the moisture range, and my scalp is itchy! :( I wonder if I should use the shine shampoo instead
