Rimmel Wake Me Up Foundation

Thursday, 23 May 2013

Surprise surprise! This is probably one of the most common beauty products that is reviewed by just about every beauty blogger in the blogosphere. After being a dedicated Wake Me Up wearer since not long after it was first released in the UK, I think I've had my fair share of applications to be entitled to share my love for this foundation. Yep that's right, I've firmly hopped on the bandwagon because this product deserves nothing but praise.

You can spot the infamous orange shimmery packing from a mile off which means no scrambling around your make-up bag when you're in a hurry of a morning. I think the shimmer lid works well as it ties in with the whole radiance selling point of the foundation. Some people dislike the packaging but I personally think it works. Don't get me wrong, I like the classic and sophisticated black MAC packaging but sometimes, bright is right. Now on to the actual product. Whether you're a make-up newbie, an avid beauty hoarder or even a slightly older woman, then this foundation is versatile enough to be worn by just about anyone. This is a hands down fail-safe foundation as it's so darn reliable. I don't think I've actually read a negative review about this and everyone who I've spoken to who uses it holds the same opinion as myself.

What I really like about this foundation is the consistency. It's not as liquidy as most other foundations (MAC Studio Fix Fluid for example) which look like a skin coloured puddle once pumped on to your hand. This foundation pumps in a mound-like fashion and almost has a stiffness to it. You'll be able to see what I mean from the picture below as it almost sits in a heap rather than flat across your hand. Application is a dream as the product isn't too thick which doesn't make it look cakey. It blends extremely well especially when using the Real Techniques buffing brush to really distribute it evenly across your face. I have a slight natural redness to my cheeks which I like to cover and this foundation does just that. So for those of you who feel you have problem areas or blemishes that you wish to hide, I'd certainly recommend you try this foundation. Sometimes when I use a foundation too regularly I feel like my skin becomes immune to it and the foundation sinks in rather than sitting smoothly on top. Luckily this hasn't happened with this foundation which is another reason why I can't stress to you how good it is.

Everyone's different and while some people like a light coverage for everyday wear, others like a fuller coverage. The wonder of this foundation is that a thin layer can be applied for a more natural look, but it can also be built up if you're going out or want to achieve a thicker coverage. Another great thing about this foundation is that it doesn't wear off too easily. Its staying power is pretty impressive and something which I like in a foundation as there's nothing worse than having to top up your base product every few hours. Although the colour looks extremely dark in the swatch it's actually the perfect colour match to my skin once blended. There's six shades to choose from so I don't think there will be any problems when it comes to finding the perfect match. I actually wear the same shade as Kate Moss, so that practically makes us best friends. A lot of people who consider buying this foundation worry the shimmer particles will overpower the base colour, but you needn't worry as they are barely visible. The shimmer works well with the product to add a natural dewy look which immediately brightens up your face. Saying that, it pretty much does what it says on the tin. If your skin is looking a bit dull or if you're looking a little tired after a heavy night, a once over with Wake Me Up will leave you looking as fresh as a daisy, even if you don't feel it.

The overall effect of this foundation is pretty wow as I feel it gives a really good coverage and once built up can look flawless. If you compare my two hands in the image above, the left hand looks a lot smoother and has a lovely glow to it which I don't think can be disputed. I really don't feel that £8.99 is very pricey at all as it's such a good quality product. Mine is on its last legs so I've branched out in hope of finding another foundation which is just as good, if not better. Wake Me Up will always be my go-to foundation if I fail to find a winning replacement as it ticks all the boxes and is an all round lovely product.  Well done Rimmel on creating the mother of all high street foundations.
