Breaking Bad

Today I'm going to go off on a little lifestyle tangent. Revision is tough, especially when you're cooped up in a small (ish) and messy uni room with the constant buzz of students around you. Due to this, I often find myself needing a little breather. I made the decision to venture into the world of box sets and find myself a new series to watch. I previously watched the first two episodes of Breaking Bad after my boyfriend told me how good it was, but I found it very slow paced and couldn't really get into it. Despite this, I decided to give it another go and let me just say,  I'm very glad I did.

The problem? It might have just taken over my life a little bit. Okay - a lot. I mean, I seem to be doing a lot more watching than planned, and revision has slowly but surely slipped into the background slightly. It's not uncommon for me to stay up until around 3am, if not a little later watching episode upon episode. I've literally started to evolve into a little hermit curled up in bed completely hooked. Not only this, but Sidereel has triumphed and has made it to the top of my most visited pages on Google Chrome. I can't quite decide whether that's an accomplishment, or something to be ashamed of. I should probably get out more...

I managed to watch two seasons in a matter of days so if that isn't proof that it is seriously worth watching, then I don't know what is. Some people are put off by the whole drug concept because on the surface, it is just about a regular teacher who decides to start cooking crystal meth. Not your average mid-life decision, I know. If you're a little daring and adventurous then this will probably be your cup of tea, but don't back away just because it doesn't seem like your kind of thing at face value. If you dig a little deeper there's a whole range of different layers that are unveiled episode by episode which shatter the whole drug facade. Don't get me wrong, drugs and crime are at the forefront of every episode, but it's actually a very raw storyline which explores and exposes real life situations that normal people experience and suffer from on a day-to-day basis.

Just a word of advice - if you have something super important which you need to channel all your energy into, then refrain from entering the world of Breaking Bad, because you will, undoubtedly, become completely distracted and have no alternative other than to blame your box set obsession for your failure. A great reason to start watching it on the other hand, is because the sixth season comes out at the end of August. It started in 2007 and it's actually quite intriguing to see the transition between each season as the years pass by. If I keep going at my current pace, then there's no doubt that I'll have completed the entirety of Breaking Bad by the end of next week, if not sooner. When I've finished it I think I'm going to opt for something a little lighter and crack on with Gossip Girl. Who knew I could be so versatile?
