My Favourite Scents

Tuesday, 16 April 2013

Although I wish I had numerous perfumes, I sadly only own two. I can deal with this though, because I don't know if anyone else has the same, but I have a day perfume and a night perfume. I like my day perfumes to be sweet and light, and my night perfumes to have a little more depth and be slightly more powerful. Some of the most gorgeous perfumes are ridiculously expensive, and since I wear it like it's going out of fashion, I have to control myself and be economical.

I wore Intimately Beckham for a while because I picked it up when it was super cheap, but I found it to be a bit dull and kind of lifeless if you like. I wanted something with a little more kick and after borrowing my sister's perfume, I was converted to Sarah Jessica Parker NYC. I find this perfume to be really light and fruity which are properties I like. People's tastes tend to vary enormously with perfume as it comes down to an individual's personal preference, but I definitely like fresh and floral scents. SJP is actually built around a vivacious wild strawberry accord, lush gardenia, and creamy, sensual undertones. It has top notes of Italian mandarin, white osmanthus and wild red strawberries. Packed with everything right? Not only this, but they've also managed to cram in middle notes of gardenia, honeysuckle, mimosa and red rose damascenia and base notes of sandalwood, vanilla absolute, rum flavour and creamy musks. Don't ask me what any of the above are, because to be totally honest I don't have the foggiest, but I do know that it smells pretty damn good. I'm a big fan of good packaging and the bottle design instantly caught my eye as it's very bright and funky which is pretty cool. There's no fiddly lid so it's great to just grab and spritz spontaneously. At around £30 for 60ml it's incredibly cheap when you consider how far it's going to stretch. I've had mine since the beginning of February, use it daily and have used just over a quarter. I have the SJP body lotion too, which also smells amazing.

My night perfume is one which I fell in love with for both the bottle and the smell, and what a wonderful combination they are. Vera Wang Princess Knight has a beautiful smell which is slightly stronger and denser, perfect for an evening occasion. I find that some perfumes smell cheap and nasty and although I don't know if you can refer to a perfume as classy, I'm going to, and this is what I consider as a classy perfume. First off, for anyone who loves a little bit of sparkle then you'll love the bottle. I used to have a slight phobia of anything glittery, sparkly or pink, but as I'm maturing I'm beginning to appreciate bits of detail here and there and this bottle has won me over. The perfume itself sparkles, quite literally, with first impressions of luscious wild berries and watermelon blended with sweet raspberry. There's also an exotic blend of velvety jasmine petals, spicy orange blossom and a twist of passion rose. Oh there's more... a trail of crushed sugar and hints of sensual musk and vanilla. I'm not really a fan of the perfume lingo and quite frankly find it a bit sickly, but it is what it is. Some of the scents in this perfume are similar to ones in SJP so I know why I'm a fan of them both. The pretty black glitter bottle accompanied with a silver crown lid catches the light and looks lovely sitting on my shelf. At £60 for 75ml this is slightly more expensive but will last for an incredibly long time, especially if you save it for evening wear like I do.

I'm quite fussy with perfumes and always tend to get new ones for Christmas or my birthday as they aren't something I can justify spending a lot of money on. I mean, think of all the clothes or beauty bits you could pick up for the price of these two perfumes. Nonetheless I do still enjoy having a couple of lovely perfumes but it'll be a while before I venture out into the perfume world for a new one.
