Well Needed Break

Thursday, 21 March 2013

Sometimes you just need a break, and that's exactly how I feel right now. The second term is by far the hardest in terms of adjusting and deadlines. The first term is exciting because you're still in that fresher mindset where you're out all the time, getting used to your course and loving life with your flatmates. That all changes soon enough. I absolutely love uni and the independence that comes with it, but there comes a point when deadlines get on top of you, exams stress you out, money gets tight and you just want to go home and be with your family and friends.

Going home for the weekend always seems like a blur, because by the time you've unpacked and had a night in your own bed, it's somehow time to pack up your stuff and get back to reality. Easter break has provided me with a complete two week getaway which is long overdue. I am more than happy to enjoy star fishing in my double bed every night, spreading my uni work out across my conservatory table and revising during the day with endless cups of tea and biscuits, not forgetting the best part where I get to enjoy eating way too much chocolate, just because it's Easter.

No doubt the novelty will wear off in a few days when my parents remember what a pain I am and become tired of making me dinner, doing my washing and clearing up after me. I'm sure it won't just be them who start to get agitated though - I'm bound to get an ear ache from all the nagging and become bored of the not so little notes that my mother kindly likes to leave around the house for me listing all the housework I should be doing while she's 'having a hard day at work'.

In all seriousness though, I guess this post is just acknowledging the fact that sometimes all we need is to break the cycle for a short amount of time in order to de-stress and enjoy the little things, and Easter seems the perfect excuse to do just this. I'm sure in a week or so I'll be itching to escape the madness of my cosy Hemel Hempstead house and venture up to Leeds to see my boyfriend, but for now, cheers to Jesus for resurrecting and giving us students 2 weeks off uni.
